Due to the extrusion process during manufacturing, the appearance of the food may vary. We do not use any starch or fillers, which can also impact the size of the kibble. Our most recent batch is slightly smaller and lighter in color than previous kibble batches.

We recently switched to a new canned food manufacturer since our previous cannery could not meet our demand.

Our new 2.75 and 5.3 oz cans have slightly different values due to the minor variations.

Our canned food can vary in color and texture due to variations in the proteins. We recently switched to a new canned food manufacturer since our previous cannery could not meet our demand.

Our new 2.75 and 5.3 oz cans are a more traditional, loaf-like paté.

Yes.  Low glycemic ingredients may reduce or eliminate the need for insulin in diabetic cats. Diabetic cats with the highest remission rates (greater than 80%) have been reported to have feeding diets with approximately 6% of energy from carbohydrates. Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein™ delivers only 5% energy from carbohydrates as compared to leading Dietetic Management foods with levels as high as 13%.

Studies show that the risk of Chronic Kidney Disease, the leading cause of death in felines, could be shown by the increase of oxalate found in cat’s urine.  Oxalic acid is an organic acid produced in animals and plants when sugars, other carbohydrates, and carbon sources (protein) are metabolized.  This is important because plant material is high in oxalate, and it has been estimated that 10% to 50% of urinary oxalate is derived from dietary oxalate.  The Instinctual diet of a cat should be derived from animal based proteins – not plants and filler ingredients high in oxalate.  —

“Is there an etiologic link between kidney disease and calcium oxalate uroliths? Is kidney disease a cause or consequence of urolith formation? Hyperoxaluria may be the common link between these two processes. One group of investigators reported that excessive oxalic acid damages kidney tubules. It is also probable that high concentrations of urine oxalate would be a significant risk factor for the formation of calcium oxalate uroliths in cats. If these assumptions are correct, what is the source of oxalic acid? The answer to these questions likely can be found in the evaluations of various diets.”

Osborne CA, Lulich JP, et al.  Analysis of 451, 891 Canine Uroliths, Feline Uroliths, and Feline Urethral Plugs from 1981 to 2007: Perspectives from the Minnesota Urolith Center

cleanprotein™ would be a good diet for these cats as the high animal based protein helps balance a natural urine PH of between 6 and 6.4 in cats, which is the ideal PH range to prevent crystal formation. If a cat has Calcium Oxalate stones it is wise to increase water intake by feeding can food.

We suggest that you consult with your veterinarian before making any changes in your cat’s diet.

Our ingredients are carefully sourced and chosen based on quality. We try to source as many ingredients from the United States, but many vitamins and minerals included in pet food aren’t manufactured in the US. While nearly 90% of our ingredients are from the US, we source others from Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Scotland and Canada. We are extremely careful with our selection of each vendor to ensure they stick to equal or greater manufacturing standards that we have here in the US.

Many competitive foods use plant-based proteins such as grains, vegetables, and fruits. Plant-based proteins are high in oxalate and lead to rapid metabolization, which actually increases your cat’s hunger. However, feeding them high quality protein can help to curb your cat’s appetite so that he or she maintains a healthy weight at every age.

The right diet can go a long way for your cat. Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein™ is 100% grain-free and gluten-free*, and over 90% of the protein is animal-based. With no fillers or preservatives added.

*produced in a facility that is not 100% gluten-free

Yes, cleanprotein™ is good for cats of all life stages.

Digestibility and Immunity

A high protein addition to cleanprotein™ kibble and paté, plasma has been shown to increase nutrient digestibility and absorption as well as support immune function. As a high quality binder, plasma replaces gums, starches and stabilizers that may cause digestive upset while stimulating appetite for improved consumption and palatability.

A Natural Nutrient

In the wild, carnivores do not let food go to waste, and all parts of prey are consumed. Naturally found in meat, plasma is rich in essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids, and contains compounds, such as antibodies, that can provide various health benefits.

Feed Protein, Not Plants

Protein ingredients are high in vital amino acids, particularly taurine, which is essential in the diet of carnivorous cats. Cats who don’t get enough taurine may have medical problems, including an enlarged heart. Protein provides cats with the energy needed to keep up with their daily activities!

As we transition our foods to new formulas, previous iterations of cleanprotein™ may still be in circulation. Below you will find a detailed list of all the ingredients and nutrition information for past formulas.

Feeding Guide (paté)

Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat.

Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion. Fresh water should be available at all times.

For adult cats, feed 1 (5.5oz) can or 1.5-2 (3oz) cans per 6-8 lbs. of body weight per day. Kittens require up to two and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, feed up to three times the normal adult amount per day.
